Mystery brown bird

I saw this bird on Friday the same time as the yellow warbler in the last shot.  The trouble is, I can't figure out what it is!  It was about the same size as a red-winged blackbird, and it seemed to be by itself.   I'm hoping someone out there can help me identify it.

  1. I know this sounds unlikely, but I have a guidebook "Birds of Nova Scotia" that shows this exact bird as a female "Black-throated blue warbler". Apparently they're not that common. It's the "yellowish-white stripe over the eye" that makes this match seem plausible. We can't see the underside, which would be buffy or yellowish-white if this ID is correct. They're the most different from male to female of any of the warblers. The male is, indeed, blue with a black throat.

Thanks so much for your reply. The bird was much too big to be a warbler. I'm pretty sure, after seeing the juvenile common grackle on June 11th (see posting of that date entitled "Fresh Fish"), that this bird is indeed a juvenile common grackle.
