I tried hard to get a shot of this woodpecker that flew across the path in front of me this morning, as I don't think I've ever seen a woodpecker foraging on the ground before (apparently Flickers often do, but not Hairys or Downys). I think it's a Hairy Woodpecker because of its size, and the absence of a red swatch on the back of its head leads me to think it's a female.
